Synhelion took part in the Sustainable Aviation Challenge of UpLink, the open innovation platform of the World Economic Forum, and has been selected as Top Innovator. UpLink’s technology-driven platform surfaces early-stage entrepreneurs and enables an innovation ecosystem to drive positive systemic change for people and planet.

UpLink was launched at the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting 2020 in collaboration with founding partners Salesforce and Deloitte. UpLink highlights ground-breaking entrepreneurs and enables an innovation ecosystem to drive positive impact. Through a competition framework known as Innovation Challenges, UpLink sources new innovations.

To accelerate and support the decarbonization of aviation and its journey to net-zero, UpLink and the First Movers Coalition have launched the Sustainable Aviation Innovation Challenge to identify and accelerate the most innovative and promising companies in this sector.

This year, Synhelion participated in the UpLink’s Sustainable Aviation Challenge and has been selected as a Top Innovator. Out of 130 high-quality submissions from around the globe, Synhelion has been chosen as a winner, among 15 other companies. Top Innovators are entrepreneurial ventures which hold sustainability at the core of their business model, and that demonstrate commercial viability and positive impacts on the environment, society, or economy.

“We are thrilled to be selected as a Top Innovator by UpLink, the WEF’s open innovation platform. This is a great recognition and will support us in scaling our solar fuel technology and on our journey to boost carbon-neutral transportation,” says Philipp Furler, Co-CEO and Co-Founder of Synhelion.

In September 2023, Synhelion has also joined the WEF’s Global Innovators Community (press release). This community is an invitation-only group of the world’s most promising start-ups and scale-ups that are at the forefront of ethical technological and business model innovation. Synhelion actively contributes toward the Airports of Tomorrow (AoT) initiative. As part of the WEF’s Center for Nature and Climate, AoT seeks to address the energy, infrastructure, and financing needs of the aviation industry’s transition to net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
